CLADEM

Registered in Peru in 1989, the Latin American and Caribbean Committee for the Defense of Women’s Rights (CLADEM) is a feminist network of organisations and activists working for the rights of women in 15 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. CLADEM uses the law as a tool for change in the areas of gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive rights, and violations of the human rights of women. With more than 340 members in the region, CLADEM operates through national networks which address specific matters in each member country and also work on regional priorities. CLADEM works through three strategies: international litigation; monitoring and training; and seeking to modify laws, public policies, and the patriarchal sociocultural practices and patterns that persist throughout the region.
