Physicians for Human Rights

Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) was established in 1986 and undertakes research and advocacy with health professionals around the world to assist them in using their medical expertise to document, investigate and expose human rights violations including torture; war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide; rape in wartime; and the persecution of health workers. PHR’s Sexual Violence in Conflict project in Central and East Africa aims to develop and support a medico-legal network across five countries (Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Sudan and Kenya) to address impunity for sexual violence. The network will train medical professionals, prosecutors and the judiciary to increase the use of reliable forensic evidence to support prosecutions for sexual violence.
