Association for the Defense of Human Rights in Romania (APADOR-CH)
Founded in 1990, the Association for the Defense of Human Rights in Romania (APADOR-CH), also known as the Romanian Helsinki Committee, works to combat excessive use of force by the police and violations against those held in detention. It undertakes regular unannounced visits to prisons, police stations and other detention centres, and receives reports from those who have directly suffered violations. It pursues strategic litigation in domestic courts and at the European Court of Human Rights, and advocates before the Romanian Parliament as well as at inter-governmental levels. APADOR also monitors legislation, especially in relation to civil liberties and human rights.
