Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies
Founded in 1993, The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) is an independent non-governmental organisation whose primary purpose is to safeguard and strengthen the human rights movement in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in order to realize a culture of respect for fundamental rights and values. To achieve this goal, CIHRS works across multiple fronts: conducting national, regional and international advocacy securing engagement on the region by human rights mechanisms; producing and disseminating analyses of human rights crises while constructing and elevating the policy solutions required to address them; establishing and supporting the development and capacity of in-country, regional and trans-Mediterranean networks of civil society partners; and laying the foundation for the next generation of regional rights defenders by providing human rights education training to future civil society leaders.
