Center for Environment (CZZS)
Established in 1999, the Center for Environment (CZZS) works to protect nature and people in Bosnia and Herzegovina through three key programme areas: Biodiversity and Protected Areas; Energy and Climate Change; and Transport. In June 2013, the organisation also established an Aarhus Centre, which seeks to progress implementation of the public’s right to information, participation and decision making in environmental matters, and access to justice under the Aarhus Convention. Founded by students of Banja Luka University’s Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the NGO’s activities initially focused on scientific research. Since then its remit has expanded to include environmental awareness raising and campaigning; support to citizens’ initiatives; site and species conservation planning; protection of ecologically important areas; and policy advocacy.
