Counselling Services Unit
Counselling Services Unit was formed and registered in 2003 out of the Amani Trust in Zimbabwe. The organisation is a registered health clinic based in Harare and provides holistic rehabilitation services to survivors of organised violence and torture, including sexual assault. Working with a countrywide network of medical professionals and peer support groups, the Unit runs a 24-hour call response centre and systematically documents cases of torture in line with the Istanbul Protocol. The systematic documentation informs collective civil society advocacy and supports efforts towards accountability and judicial reparations by its partners. The Unit is committed to protecting victims’ rights and seeking redress for past gross human rights violations and contributes to the civil society National Transitional Justice Working Group’s efforts on reparations and rehabilitation. The organisation also seeks to strengthen and hold to account the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission and the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.
