Doctors without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors without Borders (MSF) was founded in 1971 as a direct response to the famine which followed the Nigerian Civil War.  The international humanitarian organisation now operates in more than 70 countries, supporting those in remote, disaster-struck or war-torn areas with medical care, including: emergency surgery; the treatment of infectious diseases like malaria, cholera, and Ebola; large-scale vaccination campaigns; maternal and child healthcare; mental health, and nutritional support. Alongside its health interventions, MSF also adheres to a principle of témoignage, bearing witness, as core to its mission. MSF shares first-hand accounts of the impact on health caused by conflict, natural disasters, and chronic healthcare emergencies, to draw public attention to forgotten crises, those perpetuating abuses or harmful policies, and prompt international action.
