Estonian Fund for Nature (ELF)
The Estonian Fund for Nature (ELF) was founded in 1991 when 41 environmentalists and scientists came together to safeguard the future of Estonia’s ecologically valuable wilderness areas and semi-natural habitats. ELF’s work is focused on the protection and restoration of forests and mire ecosystems as well as the Baltic Sea. Work areas include: monitoring biodiversity; proposing and designing management plans for protected areas; nature-based ecosystem restoration interventions and policy advocacy. The organisation involves civil society across its work, believing that the public’s sense of connection to nature is crucial for assuring the country’s natural heritage.
