Howard League for Penal Reform

The Howard League for Penal Reform, founded in 1866, aims to foster a more humane and effective response to crime in the UK, and is the oldest Penal Reform organisation in the world. The Howard League exposes and challenges human rights violations within the prison system through a combination of litigation, campaigning and policy analysis and provides free advice and legal assistance to those in prison. It also uniquely provides free legal advice to all young people (under 25) in prison in England and Wales. The League works with parliamentarians, judges, parole board members, HM Prisons Inspectorate as well as with people in prison, and their families and the public.
