L’Art Rue
L’Art Rue is a space for artistic research, experimentation and public programmes set in the medina in Tunis. They aim to take art out of the institutional framework and show it within the city, initially in the Medina of Tunis and now across the city, outdoors, in empty shop units, billboards and other public space. L’Art Rue collaborate with civil society actors, young people and other communities in the design of their programming.
Founded in 2006 by artist siblings Selma and Sofiane Ouissi they now have six strands to their activity, the most high profile being Dream City festival which takes place every two years, presenting large scale public commissions across Tunis, convening international and local artists. They also run artist residencies, have a well-regarded youth programme, a digital strand, lecture and debates as well as opening up their space for other artistic groups to use for rehearsal and performance.
