Parallel Histories
Founded in 2017, Parallel Histories aims to empower school students so that they can think critically, analyse and debate contested histories. By developing their critical thinking, oracy skills and self-confidence students are equipped with the skills to navigate conflicting narratives. The charity empowers teachers to present multiple perspectives on historical events, working directly with primary sources arising from different “sides” of a conflict. The group works in the UK and internationally, providing an online curriculum and audiovisual learning resources; teacher-training for managing controversial topics; and opportunities for non-competitive debating, where multiple schools meet in person to present and better understand contested histories, rather than to “win” against an opponent.
