Philani

Philani promotes maternal and child health in the Western Cape and, from 2010 onwards, in the rural Eastern Cape. For over 40 years it has supported expectant mothers, assisted with the care of new-borns, and monitored children as they grow. In addition to its goal of reducing child malnutrition, Philani offers added support to families infected and affected by HIV, so as to prevent further spread of the disease. Mentor Mothers, the organisation’s flagship programme, sees trained community healthcare workers take responsibility for individual, at-risk families, providing them with constant, consistent, home-based care delivered across a relationship of trust.
