SOFEPADI
SOFEPADI (Solidarité Féminine pour la Paix et le Développement Intégral) was established in 2000 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to promote peace and the realisation of women’s rights. Since 2003 it has been specifically focused on addressing violence against women and impunity for sexual violence in Eastern DRC’s provinces of North Kivu and Orientale. SOFEPADI’s community-based approach provides specialist and holistic medical, psychological, legal and socio-economic assistance to rehabilitate and reintegrate survivors of sexual violence. SOFEPADI also runs the Karibuni Wa Mama Medical Centre in Bunia, which offers free services to victims of sexual and gender-based violence, and treatment for conditions associated with sexual violence such as fistula.
