University of Cape Town Legal Clinic

The University of Cape Town Law Clinic was set up in 1973 by a group of student volunteers initially to provide legal assistance to poor non-white South Africans but it has now developed into a fully accredited non-profit legal practice. The Law Clinic divides its operations into a litigation practice, which offers students their first opportunity of dealing with clients, and a Refugee Rights Project. The Strategic Litigation Programme will undertake precedent-seeking litigation to help refugees and asylum seekers access their rights, and address discrimination and other institutional rights violations.
