Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) is a law-based non-governmental organisation established in 1996 to protect human rights in Zimbabwe and foster a culture of respect for rights at all levels of society. ZLHR’s work includes public interest litigation, assisting human rights defenders, increasing public knowledge of constitutional rights, and strengthening the role of state institutions in implementing human rights. Its 200 individual members are practising lawyers from across the country. Through its public interest litigation programme, ZLHR provides pro bono legal assistance in strategic cases which challenge the constitutionality of repressive laws and the impunity of state officials for human rights abuses, and those which contribute to increased social and economic rights protection.
